Lorelei's Bio
I am the creator of the self-published Lilith Bible and Golden Age of Hollywood Tarot Decks.
I've read tarot since my university days when I discovered the beautiful Morgan Greer which I still possess. This was displaced a few years later by the RWS which is still my primary reading deck. I spent many years in the corporate world and reading tarot was a form of spiritual sustenance for me.
I had been thinking about a tarot deck based on the movies for several years and had done a few initial drawings over that time. My deck creation began in earnest late in 2012. What I hoped to achieve was to tell the RWS tarot story through the medium of movies, provide tarot-movie buffs with something they would enjoy and also engage a new audience in tarot.
I have just released The Lilith Bible Tarot Deck (September 2015). This deck has been two years in the making and comes from my desire to resurrect the Goddess in Judeo-Christian Western thought. I spent a lot of time not only illustrating the deck but also researching the Bible, various other scriptures and Jewish Midrash for content.
I have always been a great fan of Lilith feeling she has had a particularly bad (and undeserved) wrap. My researches unearthed lots of detail about her, which I have documented in the companion guide available from Amazon. I have taken particular care to include as many stories as possible focused on Bible goddesses and women in the deck, so you will find also the Shekinah, Delilah, Jezebel, Deborah, Dinah, Leah and Rachel to mention just a few.
A key message I wanted to get across was that the Judeo-Christian Bible is deeply rooted in a polytheistic past. In fact, in many ways the Bible chronicles the rise of monotheism and patriarchy and I wanted to bring these facts to the fore in the deck. Losing sight of our past pantheons has not been a good thing for the world and I particularly hope the deck can be used by people who want to move away from limiting forms of monotheistic spirituality but want to do this from within a medium which is familiar to them.
Another key message I wanted to convey, is that the Bible and it's stories are an integral part of our culture and Western philosophy. The stories don't just belong to the (what I affectionately call) "Bible Thumpers". They belong to all of us and we can gain a lot from understanding them better, but within their own context and time, not as some "god-given" eternal set of edicts.
